“Yesterday”

Categories: Music, Style

I recently came across this video from self-described Swedish “streetswing” group MOVITS! thanks to my friend the DJ Reverend Blue Jeans. (You may have already seen this if you’ve been following me, but it’s definitely worth sharing again.)

Not only are these guys killing it musically, but they are sartorially on point as well. I’m loving the wrinkled blue oxfords, fedoras, suspenders, and of course the suit/bow tie/chucks combo.

Unfortunately none of their music is available in the US right now, but my guess is that that won’t be a problem for long.

Browsing through the LIFE Archive I came across the following set of photos of the Finnish Isles from 1970. The selvage jeans, workshirts, and obvious nautical sensibility in these people’s daily outfits had me doing a double take. Crazy how any of these shots from 30+ years ago could fit right into a modern day Rogues Gallery or A.P.C. lookbook with little difficulty.

So last weekend was spent in and around NYC having a bunch of adventures with old and new friends. Below are some views from the train heading into Manhattan from Bronxville. Not pictured: The previous evening which involved a concert at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (Janelle Monae might be the greatest performer alive today, and Of Montreal was up to their usual sunlandic antics), getting lost in Brooklyn, and meeting up with friends in the early hours of the morning.

Here are the two brave men who accompanied me on my adventure. On the left is William, a soon to be professional model. Expect to see his striking visage in magazines and billboards in the next few months. On the right is Phil, currently a web strip non-artist. Check out his stuff at Artist Wanted.

After relaxing in the warm sun of Central Park and enjoying some choice gelato, our trio headed down to Soho and made our now customary stop at the Uniqlo and checked out the new Topman as well.

The other half of the weekend was spent with a different group of awesome people shooting a thesis film on the RED camera. This thing is seriously a beast when it comes to capturing data. We shot in and around the Bronx, including the school seen below.

My job on set was to transfer and archive all the footage to redundant drives. The un-touched shots looked incredible and supposedly after post they will look even better. If you haven’t heard about the RED camera, here’s a good example of the quality of shots it takes. For all it’s glory, like all new technology, there are still a lot of kinks with the RED to be worked out though.

Friends, adventure, and a sweet shoot made a great weekend. Can’t wait to get back to NYC again sometime soon.
