Photographed by Howard Sochurek in 1954, this set of images has me in an extreme state of envy. I need to find out if there are any other low tide golf courses still in existence, and then find a way to get to them as soon as possible.

Learn more about the history of Wake Island here, and once again thank you to the Google LIFE Archive for an amazing set of images.

Yesterday I got my hands on a copy of Gap Mangione’s 1968 release Diana in the Autumn Wind. Needless to say it is a classic, and it spent the majority of last night in rotation. Check out some of the tracks below to see the influence that this album has had in the past decade.

Gap Mangione – “Boy with Toys” (1968)

Talib Kweli – “Shock Body” (2002)

People Under the Stairs – “Youth Explosion” (2000)

With “Boy with Toys” and “Diana in the Autumn Wind” we see two different sets of artists borrowing from the same original sources and yet able to shape the sound to match their own style and vision with each track. Hip hop is amazing in its ability to both share history and a create something new at the same time.

Slum Village – “Fall N Love” (2000)

Jaylib – “The Official” (2003)
